预期目标
Envisioned Outcome

预期目标:一个WebVR展览体验(兼容浏览器、移动设备或头戴设备的线上虚拟现实)用以展示其他数字未来工作营的三维物体、图像和影像。最终作品将被添加至数字未来官网以展示成果。

在新冠疫情和充斥着大量Zoom会议的时代,我们对于社交空间关系的理解前所未有地依赖于通信技术。这些平台的局限性让我们重新思考学习、工作、人际关系和展览的形式,尤其是对于身为建筑师和设计师的我们。

过去10年中,数字未来的工作营产生了大量生动并富有教育意义的展览。但今年这同一个社群需要使用网络技术以进行以往的学习和教育活动。我们如何将数字未来的各个展览模式以互动网络的形式重新定义?能否通过线上虚拟现实技术设想一个参与性的展览空间?

本工作营将通过为数字未来全球工作营制作线上虚拟现实展览空间以展示成果来介绍沉浸式交互环境的理论和技术。工作营旨在创造一个线上的交互空间以让参与者能从家中使用现有的头戴式设备、移动设备或者浏览器访问。

Imagining A DigitalFUTURES Exhibition in Participatory Immersive Environments

Instructors and Bios:
Biayna Bogosian’s academic and professional background extends in the fields of architecture, environmental design, computational design, data science, spatial science, and interactive media design. Biayna’s interdisciplinary research has also allowed her to understand innovation in design and technology within a broader environmental context and explore data-driven and participatory approaches to improve the built environment. Biayna is a PhD candidate in the Interdisciplinary Media Arts and Practice (iMAP) program at the University of Southern California (USC). She holds a Master of Science in Advanced Architectural Design from Columbia University and a Bachelor of Architecture and Urban Design from Woodbury University. Biayna Bogosian is an Assistant Professor of Architectural Technology at FIU CARTA. Since 2011, Biayna has taught digital media and architectural design courses at Columbia University GSAPP, Cornell AAP, USC School of Architecture, American University in Armenia and Tongji University.

Claudiu BARSAN-PIPU is a cross-disciplinary Romanian computational designer with a background in architecture, fine arts, engineering and game technologies. Working at the intersection between science and art, he has been investigating over the last decade new ways in which computational methods could help advance the conceptual design process as well as on developing innovative interaction models for facilitating complex design operations. Passionate about the Complexity Theory paradigm, he contributed to developing new Artificial Intelligence and Evolutionary computational models for urban and architectural investigations and recently incorporated powerful game technologies into Virtual Reality Environments for Conceptual Design. He is a promoter of the HAD (Human Assisted Design) computational paradigm as a replacement for the more traditional CAD methodologies. After activating many years as part of upgradestudio with Oana Maria NITUICA, he launched his own computational design agency, neomorph studio (www.neomorph.io) in 2017, where together with an interdisciplinary team, he explores state of the art ideas and technologies, with a strong focus on Virtual/Mixed Reality, Brain-Computing Interfacing and Artificial Intelligence. He is also a guest lecturer at the “Ion Mincu” University of Architecture and Urbanism in Bucharest and a PhD candidate of the International DigitalFUTURES program at Tongji University in Shanghai under the supervision of Prof. Neil Leach.

NJ Namju Lee is an architectural designer, researcher, lecturer, and software engineer. He has been the principal of NJSTUDIO since 2004, specializing in architecture, computational design, and visualization. He graduated from Seoul National University of Science and Technology(B.S), later, UC Berkeley(MArch), and Harvard GSD(MDes). He researched at UrbanAid Lab at UTS, at SENSEable City Lab and Media Lab(Changing Places Group) at MIT, and at CED, UC Berkeley. He works in the integrative and interdisciplinary domain of built environment and technology, with a particular interest in computational design and visualization. Central to his practice is the use of data as the primary methodology in shaping a design process by integrated computation and visualization.

Envisioned Outcome:
A WebVR experience (web-based Virtual Reality running on browser, mobile and headset) exhibition experience designed to showcase other DigitalFUTURES workshops’ 3D objects, images and videos. Our final project will be added to the DigitalFUTURES.world website.
In the age of Covid19 and endless Zoom calls, our understanding of socio-spatial dynamics is more than ever influenced by the communication media. These platforms, as limiting and frustrating at times, have changed the way we learn, work, form relationships, and exhibit work, especially as architects and designers.

DigitalFUTURES for the past 10 years has offered in-person workshops that have resulted in lively and informative exhibitions. However, this year, the community is leveraging web-based technologies for facilitating learning and teaching. So, how can we rethink the DigitalFUTURES’ exhibition model as an interactive web format? Can we imagine a participatory exhibition space through web-based Virtual Reality (VR) technology?

This workshop introduces the theory and technology of participatory immersive environment design by creating a WebVR exhibition for the DigitalFUTURES World workshops to display their final outcomes. The goal is to create an engaging web-based meeting space that the visitors can visit from the comfort of their homes using readily available head-mounted-displays, mobile devices, or simply from their web browser.
